The Role

We are looking for an Instrumentation Testing Engineer to contribute in Seismic
acquisition Instrumentation testing aspects for our in-house developed
autonomous underwater drones known as OBSrV (Ocean Bottom Seismic robotic

large numbers of intelligent, long endurance, uncrewed underwater vehicles
These Blue Ocean developed UUVs are capable of multiple autonomous seabed
repositions to allow rapid, remote repositioning of deployed seabed receiver arrays
without the need to recover and redeploy by ROV. This, in combination with
automated launch, recovery & handling systems, rapid deployment/recovery, and
intelligent system control, allows for optimisation of seismic acquisition survey
operations and removes the requirement for ROV vessel support.

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Education level – BSC or MSc in electronic engineering, computer science, or
    similar disciplines.
  • Are self-driven to deliver quality Instrumentation testing and can meet
    deadlines with confidence
  • Is excited to learn and equip themselves with new skills and technologies
  • Have a proactive attitude and a professional approach in working with cross disciplinary teams
  • Have a good understanding of seismic acquisition sensors such as
    hydrophones, geophones and accelerometers.
  • s willing to travel domestically and internationally (<25%) within the
    company to support testing and trials
  • Have a good understanding of Analog to Digital Converters (ADC), principles
    and practices
  • Have a good understanding of seismic sensors characterisation principles and
    measurement methods
  • Have a good understanding of circuit signal time delays and measurement
  • Have a good understanding of signal processing, principles and practices
  • Have a good understanding of signal transmission lines
  • Have a good understanding of Instrument Tests and sensor signal quality
  • Have a good command in using Oscilloscopes and Function generators

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience working with OBN seismic acquisition surveys would be an
    advantage. However in absence of experience, relevant training will be
  • Experience working with SEG data formats and standards would be an
  • Experience with hydrophone sound box measurements would be an
  • Experience with shake table sensor measurements would be an advantage
  • Experience with GPS time and frequency system would be an advantage
  • Have a good understanding of Signal Spectral Analysis and Fourier transforms
  • Linux skills to complete seismic acquisition system tests day to day tasks
  • Have a good understanding of network configuration, switches etc.
  • Ability to communicate effectively on technical subject matter

General responsibilities:

  • OBSrV Seismic acquisition system hardware Installation and setup
  • Operating OBSrV Seismic acquisition system during lab tests and sea-trials
  • Conducting seismic sensor characterisation test measurements
  • Conducting seismic sensor circuit timing delay test measurements
  • Active participations in OBSrV integration tests
  • Helping in cabling and connector termination for the prototype tests
  • Provide on request full details of seismic acquisition system equipment list to
    aid shipping to and from the trials.
  • Provide full details of seismic acquisition system power requirements to aid
    trial preparations
  • Adhere to compliance with company’s technical standards and SEG standards
  • OBSrV seismic acquisition system support by direct participation in sea-trials
  • Participate actively in maintaining Geophysical module and Seismic
    acquisition system Inventory
  • Adhere to HSEQ compliance requirements during lab and trial tests
  • Take part in enhancing seismic acquisition system technical documentation
    with system installation, configuration, testing and implementation user
