The Role

The Technical Document Writer (‘TDW’) will work within the Blue Ocean Seismic Services Limited (‘BOSS’) engineering team and will report to the Technical Program Manager. The TDW will take ownership of a variety or reporting functions and produce accurate, detailed and often complex presentations, reports, technical documents and policies.

BOSS is an established and innovative tech company with strong shareholders including BP. Our vision is to disrupt the Marine Seismic industry through the development of a large-scale autonomous ocean bottom seismic data acquisition system, resulting in a step change reduction in the cost, time and HSSE risks required to acquire high quality OBS data. We help our clients to reduce their carbon emissions and their carbon footprint.
BOSS is developing a revolutionary, integrated seismic acquisition system based around long endurance, self-repositioning robotic ocean bottom nodes.

These nodes are capable of multiple autonomous re-positions to allow rolling of the receiver array without having to recover and redeploy nodes. This, in combination with automated handling systems, rapid deployment/recovery and intelligent system control, allows for optimisation of seismic acquisition survey operations to minimise duration and cost, and removes the requirement for ROV support.

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent preferred
  • Experience in technical writing of software and/or complex engineering systems documentation
  • Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
  • Familiarity with the SDLC and general software development
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

Background in Engineering or the Technology sector Experience with practical implementation of ISO9001 and IOGP

General responsibilities:

  • Research, write, edit and proofread complex technical data.
  • Create, maintain and update manuals, procedures, specifications and other documents.
  • Create, maintain and update installation instructions, training material and other technical documents.
  • Design and establish style guidelines and standards for texts and illustrations to meet business needs.
  • Create, compile and deliver software developmental documentation packages.
  • Review, revise, modify or edit documents prepared by others.
  • Coordinate project plans, budget and determine resources.
  • Compile, organize and write online help files to support end-users.
  • Write technical documents in compliance to the company’s established standards and guidelines.
  • Evaluate and recommend revisions to standards and guidelines.
  • Contribute to BOSS compliance tasks for getting and maintaining ISO9001 and IOGP certifications.
  • Provide writing, editing and design support to other team members.
